This was my first ever gig; I was 15. I've still got the 'Isolar' programme and even a 'Bowielite',
but I never thought I'd have a recording of it. Fantastic.
By the way, my second-ever gig was the following night; same venue, same act. My second-ever gig was
going to be Elton John a few weeks later, but DB was so good on the 4th that the following day I
sold my EJ ticket and bought a ticket for that night's DB gig that I knew was going spare.
Some people seem to have doubts about how genuine these recordings are, and I've even had them
myself due to the sheer scale of their completeness. Well, I can certainly vouch for the provenance
of the 5th May as I can still remember DB's patter about his 'good brandy', introducing the audience to each other and his name being Winston Churchill. (I can also remember hearing the news as I left the gig that my beloved West Ham had lost in the European Cup-Winners-Cup Final; obviously not as beloved as my new hero though, Bowie).
Cygnet, thank you so much for these recordings. I think those gigs were a turning point in my life, so it's great to be able to hear them again. I hope you are well; you deserve to be, you absolute diamond.
